For Generations to Come

For Generations to Come is Redeemer’s vision for a new home for our church family and the generations of believers yet to come, all in the hope that Redeemer might continue to grow as a place of deep hospitality, joyful fellowship, and faithful evangelism.

Preparing a New Home

On October 4, Redeemer signed contracts to purchase all remaining vacant property at the former Trinity Medical Center site. For the first time, we are under contract for the entire site, representing over 25 acres with 1,200 parking spaces and plenty of open land to develop. What began as a plan to purchase two buildings and a single parking deck has grown into an opportunity that is both more cost-effective and better suited for Redeemer’s desire to create a space for deep hospitality, joyful fellowship, and faithful evangelism.

Joel has mentioned that this is “one of the most complex property purchases in the history of the world,” and while there is some hyperbole in that statement, he’s not wrong in describing just how much prayer and effort has gone into making this project a reality. The last year has been a whirlwind of meetings, consultation, studies, planning, design, contract negotiation, and – most importantly – prayer. God has continued to open doors and make this project viable, and our primary goal has been to walk forward faithfully.

Without question, this is a significant moment. Since moving into our Avondale sanctuary in 2014, our membership has grown from fewer than 200 people to nearly 2,000. Each Sunday, we welcome over 400 children, and each Tuesday, we welcome nearly 500 college students. Our 600-seat sanctuary and surrounding spaces have served us faithfully for more than a decade, but our church family has grown beyond what they can hold. What a joyful challenge it is to see God continue to bring new faces into our family faster than we can make room for them.

As we’ve said before, the Trinity site offers a rare alignment of location, size, and value. That said, this property is much more than just a solution to logistical challenges – we believe it will be a foundation for long-term Gospel impact in Birmingham and beyond.

The Trinity Site

This site represents a path that allows Redeemer to serve not only our generation but generations of believers yet to come, and we believe this site will allow us to once again grow as a place of deep hospitality, joyful fellowship, and faithful evangelism.

  • Deep Hospitality for the Newcomer: Redeemer’s culture of hospitality begins in our homes and extends to our gatherings. A larger facility means open seats, clear signage, and accessible parking — the bedrock of a welcoming environment where newcomers aren’t turned away, but welcomed and received.

  • Fellowship for Our Church Family: Fellowship is central to discipleship and shepherding. With unhurried conversations, spacious classrooms, accessible gathering areas, and vibrant children’s spaces, our church family will finally have room to grow together.

  • Evangelism for the Generations to Come: There is a multitude of children yet to be born, neighbors yet to be reached, and worshipers yet to gather. This new facility allows Redeemer to remain rooted in Birmingham — proclaiming Christ with clarity, compassion, and conviction for generations to come.

The Work to Do

Since Redeemer’s mission is the Great Commission, there is much work left to do. The Avondale campus has served us well, but it can no longer sustain the growth God has given us and the convictions we hold.

This work will require the collective commitment of our church family — through time, talents, and treasures. We believe that the ultimate success of this project will require our entire church family to give sacrificially and walk forward together.

Join Us

  • As we move forward, our deepest desire is to do so humbly and faithfully, keeping Christ at the center of every plan, every decision, and every step we take. To that end, we invite you to join us in a season of prayer, asking God to guide us in every step of this journey.

If you would like to join us for monthly prayer gatherings on the site, please send us a message.

Regardless of whether you join us for a prayer gathering, we ask you pray that:

    • God would guide us as we seek to be faithful to the flock and convictions He has given us.

    • God would give wisdom to the teams of church leaders and professionals who have been working diligently on a new home for our church.

    • God would begin working in the hearts of those we can reach for the Kingdom through our new home.

    • God would cultivate a spirit of joyful generosity, moving in our church family to give our time, talents, and treasures with open hands, trusting Him to provide all that is needed for His work.

    • Our church family would remain unified throughout this process.

    • Christ would be at the center of it all, whatever we build or don’t build in the future.

  • We invite our church family to partner with us by offering the very abilities God has entrusted to them.

Whether you are skilled in design, construction, project management, or simply passionate about creating welcoming spaces for worship and fellowship, there will be many opportunities to speak into the process. From offering insight into the design of the sanctuary, classrooms, and gathering spaces to helping imagine how our new home can better foster Gospel Hospitality and deep discipleship, your voice matters.

  • Bringing this property to life will require a significant investment from our church family. In truth, this project will require nothing short of a miracle.

Our prayer is that every Covenant Member would prayerfully seek how the Lord is calling them to steward their finances and resources towards this project. For some, that may mean sacrificially giving for the first time. For others, it may mean stretching their generosity in ways they never imagined. For all of us, it will mean trusting that whatever we offer, God can and will use for His glory.

Just as past generations made room for us, we are now called to do the same.

Let us not shrink back, but give boldly, trusting that God will use our sacrifice to fuel His work for generations to come.
