Frequently Asked Questions

We know a project like this raises a lot of questions, and we’ve been so excited to see how our church family has been intentional in their desire to learn more about this project. Below you'll find responses to some of the most common questions we’ve heard. If you don't see what you're looking for, send us a message.

  • Over many years, the Lord has grown Redeemer in ways we could not have anticipated. Our Avondale campus has served us faithfully, but it can no longer meet the needs of our church family. On most Sundays, we are at capacity, classrooms are stretched, and our ability to welcome new people is limited. We are deeply grateful for what God has done in that space, but it has not been able to support the life and growth of our congregation for some time.

More than a matter of space, this step is about faithfulness to our convictions. Hospitality, fellowship, and evangelism are central to who we are. After more than five years of prayer and exploring every reasonable alternative, the elders are unanimously convinced this is the direction the Lord is leading us. This move meets a real need today while preparing a home for generations to come.

  • Description text goes hereOver the past five years, we have explored expanding in Avondale, acquiring nearby property, and considering other locations. In each case, either the opportunity closed or it failed to meet our church’s long-term needs. The Trinity campus is the first property to remain open and fully supports both our present and future ministry.

Its proximity allows us to remain rooted in the same part of Birmingham where God has already established our witness. At the same time, its size and infrastructure provide room to grow for generations. Rather than confining our ministry, this property allows us to build in ways that support worship, discipleship, hospitality, and future expansion. We believe this is a providential door the Lord has kept open.

  • The new campus will allow us to live into our convictions as a church family more fully. It will create space to welcome new neighbors, provide permanent environments for our children and students, and give our congregation places to gather, linger, and grow in Christ. Our goal is not simply more square footage, but space that strengthens belonging and discipleship.

It will also position Redeemer to expand as the Lord continues to grow our church. With room for future development, this campus becomes not just a solution for today but a foundation for decades of gospel ministry in Birmingham. We believe this is a faithful step that serves both our present needs and future generations.

  • In the first phase, we plan to construct a new Children’s & Education Building, fellowship space, and a permanent, stand-alone multipurpose worship space. This phase also includes site and utility work and needed infrastructure improvements to existing buildings and parking decks.

A future phase will include the construction of a permanent sanctuary. By sequencing the project this way, we are addressing our most immediate needs while preparing for long-term development.

  • We are choosing to build a permanent children’s space first to prioritize the next generation. Each Sunday, more than 400 children are taught and cared for in our church. As we move to fewer worship services in a larger gathering space, we must ensure that our children have safe, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed environments.

Children’s ministry requires permanent classrooms and infrastructure in a way that adult worship does not. Adults can gather in a multipurpose space for a season, but children need consistent, secure classrooms designed specifically for their care and formation. This approach allows us to serve our families well while preparing for a future permanent sanctuary.

  • Our timeline is tied directly to funding. We plan to begin construction as soon as the necessary funds are in place. We hope to begin construction in 2027, with the project taking approximately 9–12 months. Our goal is to hold our first services on the new campus by Easter 2028.

Until that time, we will continue to make the most of our current location and operate as we currently do. Building on a separate site allows ministry to continue without disruption during construction.

  • In the short term, ministry will continue as it does now. Because we are building on a new property, our weekly worship and discipleship gatherings will remain at Avondale until the new site is ready.

When we move, we anticipate transitioning as many ministries as possible to the new campus. Some adult discipleship gatherings and staff offices may remain offsite for a season until additional space is available.

  • The total projected cost for the Trinity project is approximately $38M, including the property purchase and Phase 1 development. This includes $11M for the property acquisition and approximately $27M for Phase 1 construction and site development, including the Children’s & Education Building, fellowship space, multipurpose worship space, site and utility work, and infrastructure improvements.

A future phase will include the construction of a permanent sanctuary.

  • By God’s grace, as of February 2026, we have already received enough pledges and cash to purchase the Trinity property. Our current capital campaign goal is to raise $27M to complete Phase 1.

This campaign focuses specifically on funding construction and site preparation for this first stage of development.

  • While we hope to minimize borrowing and reduce balances as campaign gifts are received, some debt may extend beyond a short-term bridge period.

Any borrowing will be guided by the financial guardrails established by the elders to protect the church’s long-term financial health.

  • Redeemer is currently in a strong financial position. We are debt-free and have purchased and renovated our Avondale campus through faithful generosity. As of the end of 2025, we had net assets exceeding $9M made up of savings, building contributions, and the value of our property in Avondale.

In 2025, general giving exceeded the budget by 11%, and operations finished under budget, resulting in a strong operating surplus. Our budget each year is built on prior actual giving rather than projected growth.

  • The Trinity campus includes approximately 25 acres and is just over a mile from our current Avondale location. One of the greatest strengths of this property is the significant amount of undeveloped land, which provides room for new construction and long-term expansion.

The property also includes two multi-level parking decks with approximately 1,200 dedicated parking spaces. In addition, there are three existing buildings on site that we are evaluating as part of the broader master plan. Some may be renovated in future phases, while others may not be used immediately.

  • We will continue to use our Avondale property while we prepare and build on the Trinity campus.

Once we relocate, our desire is for the Avondale property to continue serving the neighborhood as a gospel-preaching church. We hope to find another congregation who can faithfully minister in that community.

  • We are working closely with our architects to design spaces that reflect Redeemer’s identity and meet the needs of our growing congregation. While final details are still being developed, our desire is to preserve many of the elements we love about our current sanctuary.

At the same time, we anticipate thoughtful changes that reflect our church’s identity and the character of the new location.
